Description

Description of the project:

The household waste landfill "Litzholz" was to be technically improved in the existing areas and generously expanded. The new planning of the landfill (including the extension) covered about 25 ha. The future expansion area is to be used for the deposit of ashes and slags from waste incineration.
In the existing areas, the landfill has a landfill base with mineral sealing and partly with combination sealing. The existing landfill section is degassed. The collected leachate will be treated. The other landfill sections are to receive a combination seal. Furthermore, a surface sealing (also combination sealing) is planned for the entire landfill.

Completion: October 1995

Services performed by ICP:

ICP carried out the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the measures described above. The EIA comprised both an inventory of environmental impacts and a forecast of future impacts on water, soil, air, fauna, flora and humans due to the planned landfill expansion. For this purpose, geological and hydrogeological investigations were first carried out. Furthermore, a soil survey was carried out and dust emissions in the vicinity of the landfill were determined.
The EIA described the expected impacts of the landfill on the environment and the measures to be taken to avoid, reduce or compensate for these impacts. For this purpose, the permeability of the subsoil was determined and various dispersion calculations were made.
The EIA considered landfill gas and leachate emissions, odours, noise and dust.
