Description

Description of the project:

The "Ittersbach" landfill of the Karlsruhe district was sealed from 2004 to 2007 after final profiling with a surface sealing system equivalent to TASi.
The Ittersbach landfill is a hilltop landfill with an area of approx. 9.5 ha. The maximum elevation in the centre of the landfill is approx. 22 m. The slope to the edge is generally between 1:4 and 1:3.2; in the steep area on the north-eastern slope it is just under 1:3. Between 1999 and 2003, approx. 330,000 t of profiling material were installed at the landfill to create uniform, defined slope conditions.
The sealing system applied between 2004 and 2007 consists of a gas drainage layer of track ballast d=0.3 m, TRISOPLAST® layer d > 7.0 cm, plastic sealing membrane with BAM approval 2.5 mm, protective fleece 800 g/m², surface drainage of melting chamber granulate d= 0.3 m geotextile and recultivation soil d= 2.0 m.
The recultivation layer of the Ittersbach landfill consists mainly of soil materials deposited at the neighbouring Ittersbach landfill site. For the production of the recultivation layer, the existing landfill was partially deconstructed. For this purpose, the suitability of the materials from the landfill site was examined in advance, especially with regard to the usable field capacity.
In the area of the steep slope, the materials were placed in compacted layers in the lower layers; in the area of the other surfaces, an uncompacted placement was carried out with a caterpillar. The top layer of the recultivation layer was placed with a caterpillar with low soil pressure. To protect against erosion, a spray-on vegetation layer was applied, and erosion control mats were placed in particularly endangered areas. The landfill was planted with pioneer plants as a pre-forest.

Services performed by ICP:

Execution of all planning services according to HOAI (LP 1 to LP 9), execution of local site management, preparation of safety and health protection plan and execution of SiGeKo, preparation of quality assurance plan.
In addition to these services, the following were carried out:
Surveying of the landfill, regular monitoring of settlement levels, FID measurements to check the impermeability of the surface sealing, implementation of control monitoring for the mineral building materials (profiling materials, gas drainage layer, sealing materials (Trisoplast), surface drainage and recultivation materials.
Planning and supervision of the execution of a PE-HD leachate storage tank of 100 m³.
Subsoil investigation for storage of the leachate storage tank
Tendering of extraction test including awarding and monitoring of extraction
Conduct annual FID inspections
Soil investigation to assess the suitability of the recultivation materials provided by the AG from the dismantling of the Ittersbach landfill site
Implementation of the entire recultivation planning in cooperation with the office Mailänder Consult Karlsruhe
The engineering services were classified in zone III below according to HOAI. Chargeable costs were agreed for the delivery of contaminated materials with reimbursements.
